Furniture is not all that I do.....

If perchance you thought that redesigning furniture is all I do, you would be wrong...

I have clients with needs and I try to meet them.  Here is a very interesting problem a old umbrella stand.  The client had it in her house and the cats took exception to it.  She tried to clean the mess off  if you know what I mean, and the paint came off..... not surprising.  "Please can you fix it for me?"  Of course I can try...He is made out of metal with the umbrella part in the back.

I believe he will pass inspection... The client says he is a poodle, don't quite see it myself, my daughter says he is rather creepy and please get him out of the house... I kind of have to agree with her...and the cats ;)

Donated Part 3 the Chalk Board

Yet another part of the Armoire,  One of the side panels.  

 I painted the whole thing with Crisp Linen my go to white color then painted the inset panels with Chalk board paint.  In the center I used a graphic from The Graphics Fairy ,  I tore around the text and Mod Podged it on.  The whole thing was then distressed and glazed.

This could be hung on the wall or leaned against the wall.  What I thought of as well was that the side which is pretty wide could be used as a growth chart for the kids.  If you were like my family, we moved almost every two years so putting a growth chart on the wall would not have worked, but this you could take with you every where.

The Purse Experience

This is a bit different for me but I have been so inspired by all you bloggers out there and all of the different things that you do, I had to try some different things of my own.  So here is the purse experience.....

I bought the purse at Hobby Lobby  it was nice burlap two toned. I chose a graphic so sorry can't remember where I got it now...If any one knows please let me know in the comments.  Then  printed it out on transfer paper I changed the font color from black to a dark brown to go with the bag colors and got ready to iron it onto the purse..

I pressed really hard........ at this point my daughter came home and was watching so I suggested she grab the camera for me and take some pictures for my blog, you know...

I was so happy with the look of it when I started pealing it off so proud of myself.  Daughter was still shooting pictures.....

I am surprised she got this picture without it being blurry... We were both laughing so hard cause the purse was  glued stuck to the ironing board!!  The inside of the purse had a plastic coating on the back of the burlap, I guess to hold the burlap together and give the purse some shape.  Well when I was pressing so hard to get the transfer to stick.... it was melting!  The plastic melted right onto the ironing board cover!!  Took some real tugging to get that sucker off!

End result was really cute.  Took it to the store and consigned it..   SOLD !  Was a fun experience!  Lesson learned, Hobby Lobby had another sale and bought another purse!  Going to give it another try!

Donated Part 2 The Mirror

Here is another part of the Armoire,  This is one of the front doors.  It has a beveled glass mirror.

 This one was not to difficult, we painted it with the crisp linen paint, distressed it and glazed it with a nice warm brown. 

What we have here is a  5 foot tall mirror that you can lean against a wall anywhere in your house. 

Donated Part 1 The Base and Crown

This blog is about a donated piece that wasn't all there.  It was a really old armoire, unfortunately not all the pieces were there.  So we took what we could of it and made other things , A "Redesign"  if you will.

 Here is the top and the bottom of the piece.  Which is what we will be working with today.

First the bottom, my coworker is wonderful with wood, he made a flat top for it, then we bought foam and batting a wrapped all of that with the fabric. He painted the wood part white, and attached the upholstered top to the base. The scroll part is a drawer which adds storage and is  pretty cool.

Next for the top of the piece.  We decided to make it an architectural element easy peasy if you have the right person to do the job.  He cut off the behind the scenes parts and all that was left was the front of the piece.  Painted white and distressed it now can hang on the wall or over a doorway.  Beautiful!
